Eco-School

Eco-news

Fosse Bank has been an Eco-school since 2008 when we were awarded our first Green Flag. In January 2011 we were inspected by 'Keep Britain Tidy' who run the scheme and we are pleased to announce that we have successfully renewed our award. Our next renewal date is January 2013. Our renewal application will be completed online, which means less paper of course!

Paper recycling

In every classroom we have a paper recycling box. Children and staff are encouraged to use this box when they are tidying up in the classroom. Mr Horne kindly empties these boxes on a weekly basis.

Battery recycling

In February 2011 we introduced a battery recycling facility in school. There is a box in the conservatory where you can put your used batteries when you arrive at school.

Composting

In our school grounds, next to the pond, trim trail and playground we have a large compost bin. All our fruit waste is added to this bin. Perhaps the gardening club will be able to make use of the homemade compost later in the year.

Recycle or waste?

At playtime we all eat a healthy snack, which is usually fruit. Our fruit waste goes iin one bin, before it is emptied into the large compost bin. The other bin is for the small amount of plastic or other packaging which we may need to throw away. Have you noticed our new metal bins to stop the squirrels nibbling at them?
