Frequently Asked Questions

What time does school start and finish?

Children from Reception to Year 6 can arrive at school from 8.00am.  Pre-school children can arrive from 8.30am.  Registration is at 8.50am.  Pre-school and Reception children finish at 3.30pm, Year 1 and 2 children finish at 3.40pm and Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 children finish at 3.50pm.

How easy is drop-off and pick-up at the start and end of the school day?

The school is on private land and there is ample and safe parking for all parents at all times during the day.

Can you provide extended before and after school care?

Children are supervised from 8.00am until the end of the school day. Most After-school Clubs finish at 5.00pm.  We have an After-School Club called Phoenix Club that offers care provided by school staff until 6.00pm; this can be booked by email on a regular or ad hoc basis.

What After-school Clubs are available?

We offer a range of After-school Clubs which generally run from 4.00pm until 5.00pm. Most clubs are free, but some incur a fee if they involve external coaches.  The clubs are organised to appeal to all ages and tastes and will include activities such as: Dance, Football, Chess, Karate, Craft, Board Games, Ballet, Rugby, Drama, iPads, Computer Stories, Gardening, Cooking and many others.

Does the school provide transport?

At present we do not operate a school bus service but our school minibus is used to transport children to fixtures and on some class trips.

How easy is it to get to the nearest mainline Railway Station?

Hildenborough Station is a 10 minute walk from the school and there is a fast and frequent service to London Bridge and Charing Cross in London.  Parents are welcome to ask for a parking disc to enable them to park, without charge, on school grounds all day.

How will my child cope with their first day?

Your child will be given a 'buddy' who will take special care of them for their first week at school. The staff will call you immediately if there are any difficulties but in our experience, all children settle very quickly and become part of the Fosse family immediately.

What is a typical class size?

Class sizes are limited to a maximum of 18 children.

How much sport will my child do each week?

All children have a swimming lesson, a games lesson and a dance or gym lesson each week.  In addition, most children participate in Lunchtime Clubs and carry out a sporting activity daily.

Are parents welcome to help in school?

We welcome parental help in a number of ways, including help with swimming, the library and for additional activities.  All parents are part of the PTA known as the Fosse Association, and can be as active as they choose to be.  There are many opportunities for parents to share their skills with us by offering a regular club or a 'one-off' event during our 'Specialist Days'.

Do you offer bursaries or scholarships?

We do offer bursasries which are means tested.  Each year in March, the Finance Committee meets to disucss all bursary applications and parents are encouraged to submit applications prior to this meeting.  Further nformation can be obtained from the School Office.  We do  not currently offer any scholarships.

How can I arrange to view the school?

We strongly believe that a visit to the school is the most important factor when deciding what is right for your child.  We will arrange for you to tour the school and meet the Head at a time that is convenient to you.  Please contact the School Office on 01732 834212 to arrange an appointment.

Do you cater for pupils with dietary needs?

All children have a school lunch which is included in the fees.  All meals are nutritionally balanced, and are prepared and cooked on site by our Chef.  Individual dietary requirements are catered for following consultation with the child's parents.

Where do other parents live?

We have a wide catchment area that extends from Bromley in the north and West Malling in the east to Tunbridge Wells in the South, although the majority of our families live in Hildenborough, Tonbridge and the surrounding villages.

What is the rate of staff turnover?

The staff turnover at Fosse Bank School is very low.  It is one of our main priorities to maintain our quality and highly motivated team and we invest in them and their career development.

If you have a question that is not answered above, please do not hesitate to contact the School Office.
