We will be taking part in 'Walk on Wednesday' throughout this year beginning on October 3rd. It would be wonderful to see as many children as possible using sustainable travel such as walking, cycling or scooting to get to school once a week. There will be a 'Park and Stride' facility at The Flying Dutchman pub where your car can be left so that you can complete your journey on foot. The children who take part will have a card to collect a sticker every time they 'Walk On Wednesday'. Many thanks for all your support. The Year 6 and Year 5 representatives on the Eco-council have learnt how the figures are recorded each week.
Our Year 6 Eco-council representative is kept busy on a Wednesday handing out stickers and recording the figures ready for Mrs Boyce to enter them on the kmwalktoschool website. We welcomed the 'Walk to school' roadshow to an assembly at the end of the month. Who do you think was inside that Buster costume?!
We have decided to start by developing the vegetable patch part of the walled garden. Using money raised at our sponsored swim last May, we have bought rabbit proofing, fencing and a gate. Due to adverse weather conditions ( a very cold and wet February/March) the project was not completed until 23rd March. Many thanks to Mr Mark Waddington (PTA) and his brave cohort of Dads who braved snow and rain to install the fencing recently. Mrs Boyce hopes to run a Gardening club during the Summer term.
Mrs Boyce has been collecting information about how much electricity and gas we use in our building. This means regular trips into the cellar (dark and creepy!) to read the meters and record the figures. We hope that some of the older children will be involved in some interesting mathematics work to find out just how much our energy consumption is costing!
