France report 2012 - day 4 The Final Instalment!

DSCN138631st May 2012

It is with a heavy heart that I begin our final instalment from Rue, France.

The most hilarious evening around the campfire involved the usual charades, cooking marshmallows and campfire songs but nothing could prepare anyone for Harry Forster leading us in the most memorable rendition of ‘Boom Chicka Boom!’  As if that wasn’t enough, the children prepared a short ‘piece’ for the Fosse Bank’s Got Talent campfire performance.  However, the judges (Mr Broad, Mrs Phillips, and Mrs Sleight) were mesmerized by Finlay Gordon’s dancing ninja squirrel – an epic masterpiece that I am sure will live on at Fosse Bank for years to come!!  After an evening of such stimulation, it was early lights out, which I am pleased to say, the children welcomed.

Day 4 began well, with several teachers from another school who were also staying at the Chateau, stopping me on my way to breakfast to praise how polite and well behaved the Fosse Bank children were, particularly the girls!  Initially, I thought they must have me mistaken for someone else, but sure enough, the girls had demonstrated everything that we hold dear at Fosse.  I recovered well thanking them and stating that ‘our girls are always like that!’  However, this was genuinely very pleasing to hear.

The morning activities consisted of a scavenger hunt and the opportunity to conquer the climbing wall!  After a hearty and ‘carbo-licious’ lunch of pasta, spring rolls, samosas and more baguette, we headed down to the lake for kayaking and canoeing.  Those that managed to stay dry were in the minority but all the children had a great afternoon.

As a treat, the options for dinner were hot dogs, burgers or fish with chips and vegetables, which will be needed for the exciting night ahead!  As the smell of Adidas aftershave fills the air of the boys rooms and make-up mirrors at the ready in the girls rooms, the children began to plan their dance routines. The one hour countdown to the disco has officially begun and no doubt, it will be one of the highlights of their trip.

There will be a final morning run first thing tomorrow, followed by abseiling and rifle shooting.  After this, the time will come say ‘au revoir a Le Château du Broutel’ and to all the great activity staff members that we have met before beginning our journey home with Kevin our charismatic and trusted coach driver.

To hear what happens next….you will be able to ask the children yourselves when they return home.

Thank you for following our France 2012 diary.
