What can you do to help your child at home?

Literacy

• Sharing a story book
• Sounds to learn
• Spellings (later on in the year)
• Ongoing-encourage mark making, writing name and other words
• Lots of speaking and listening to develop communication skills

Mathematics

• Practise counting at any time-climbing the stairs, shopping etc
• Recognising numbers in the environment (bus number, door numbers)
• Solving simple everyday problems
• Play simple board games
• Sing number rhymes and songs together

Personal, social, and emotional

• Encourage independence
• Give lots of praise when they have done something well
• Encourage forming good relationships with peers i.e inviting friends over to play
• Reinforce sharing and taking in turns
• Reinforce codes of behaviour at school and other places
