Year 1 Homework

After an initial period to allow the children to settle, homework will be set on a Monday. The children will have a homework folder which will contain the spellings they should try to learn during the week. The children should bring their folder back to school the following Monday when they will be tested informally on their spellings. Mathematics tasks may also be set to support the work completed in class that week. Please feel free to comment on the tasks set as homework. It is always helpful to know if the children find the work particularly challenging or enjoyable.

Reading is taught in various ways. It may take the form of children reading individually to their teacher or teaching assistant. At least one day each week all of the children will participate in a 30 minute supported group reading session. In some cases the children may participate in group or individual phonic work. The children will bring home a reading book for you to share each evening. Please record the number of pages you have read so that we know where to begin the next day. The reading diary is checked each morning so please feel free to leave a note about any aspect of the school day.
