Year 6 ook part in a county-wide safety awareness scheme run by Kent County Council. They atteneded lots of safety related activities including water, road, electricity, farm and transoprt safety, all of which will be helpful to our Year 6s, especially as they prepare for Secondary School.
Friday 1st March 2013
Year 6 enjoyed their trip to Wakehurst Place in West Sussex. We disected flowers, went on a learning walk and visited the Kew Millennium Seed Bank. We learnt about the important and difficult task the Seed Bank has, cataloging and preserving seeds of endangered plant species.
We also learnt about the process of pollinationa and what a terrible place the world would be without plants (and bees).

Today Year 6 got to experience a taste of life as a teacher. They were put into pairs and assigned a year group. They then planned and delivered some fantastic lessons (while Mr Pavey became the house captains, collecting the merits).
The Year 6s also speant time marking the work their pupils had produced, providing them with feedback and a few merits here and there.
Oliver also got to experience a snippet of Mrs Lovatt-Young's work by working closely with her, observing lessons and scrutinising books. In the afternoon he also delivered a fantastic celebration assembly.
A few interesting quotes I heard. "Oh this is hard work, how do teachers do this 5 times a day, 5 days a week?" and the interesting "Marking's fun!"
